Increased scrutiny of baggage at airports requires a better way of scanning bags for illegal items. That requirement means that better baggage scanners will be needed. Elekon introduces the EPA-4400 series of highly sensitive photodiode arrays, which are used to detect the x-rays in baggage scanners. The EPA-4400 series is a family of 8, 16 and 32 element photodiode scintillator arrays that are suitable for a wide range of x-ray and scanning applications, such as spectroscopy, general medical, security systems and baggage scanners.

Features of the EPA-4400 include high sensitivity (400-1080 λ), uniform response of 0.30A/W (when λ = 540nm), element size of 1.49 x 3.61mm and an element spacing of 1.587mm. Extended element lengths are available on request (Plate 5).
