"Wire-Free" technology opens up a new world of information possibilities
Keywords: Data, Communications, Radio
The blackBOX "wire-free" system offers organisations of any size or requirement a cost efficient data monitoring and equipment control solution suitable for any application, and is limited only by your imagination.
Developed by BOX telematics, part of The Mobilelone Group, the blackBOX system is the result of three years of intensive development that has resulted in an alternative solution for the transmission of "wire-free" data and SMS (Plate 3).
Plate 3 sigmaBOX, a universal real time, "wire-free" monitoring device, designed by BOX telematics, works on a system of discreet pro-active sensors which can flag up any potential disasters before they occur, monitoring and controlling pressure, temperature, flow rates and analogue or digital changes in state – the applications are endless and limited only by your imagination
The first "wire-free" telemetry device to be approved for use across the Orange data network, the flexible and functional blackBOX is designed to meet the needs of companies wanting to operate their machinery and systems in a more cost effective and efficient manner. In the same way that a mobile phone transmits information, the system can be programmed to monitor and control virtually any business environments "wire-free". It offers a pro-active monitoring facility either where important information needs to be transmitted in a matter of seconds or where it has simply to be recorded and logged for downloading back to base.
blackBOX can be incorporated into an operator's equipment to report on system failure or faults, to collect data, switch components, detect change in performance and even enable the operator to activate and de-activate processes. As well as being easily integrated into existing technology, it can act as a stand-alone system for companies with little or no existing monitoring and logging equipment.
Mike Langley, sales and marketing director of BOX telematics, says: "blackBOX has far- reaching benefits, from applications that require satellite technology, such as tracking, through to providing solutions in a static environment, where large amounts of data can be transmitted by a "wire-free" method, rather than using a land line. As one of the UK's leading service providers for data, we can reach over 99 per cent of the UK's population which gives our customers unrivalled access."
blackBOX currently offer a range of options, including utilityBOX, climoBOX and sigmaBOX. Designed specifically for the utilities sector, utilityBOX enables providers such as water companies to monitor and control pressure, temperature, flow rates and analogue or digital changes in state offering the potential to greatly improve resource management. sigmaBOX, designed for manufacturing industries, and climoBOX, for the food manufacture and processing industries, currently offer the same monitoring capabilities with trials currently in hand to add predictive monitoring. This will enable the system to predict and pinpoint when equipment is likely to fail, which the company are confident will result in significant cost savings for manufacturers.
