Heidenhain-Specto – The length gauge for applications in automated productionKeywords: Automation, Production

Besides providing an accuracy of +/– 1µm, length gauges for process monitoring and automated production must essentially fulfil requirements for size and mechanical durability. Here the new Heidenhain-Specto length gauges are setting a new standard (see Plate 7). These incremental length gauges have measuring ranges of 12 and 30mm (0.47 and 1.2in.) and, in the current version, provide a reference mark. This results in significant productivity gains, particularly in linked machines. Thanks to incremental scanning according to the photoelectrical principle, the length gauges remain stable over long periods of operation, requiring no recalibration.

The mechanical design respects the high dynamic requirements of automated production. For example, the length gauges are designed for plunger velocities up to 1.2m/s (47ipm). All versions feature a ball-bush guided plunger and a high degree of protection against contamination. There are also versions available for pneumatic plunger extension.
