NEPTCO selects Cognex for web inspection

NEPTCO selects Cognex for web inspectionKeywords: Machine vision, Composite materials

Cognex, a leading supplier of machine vision, has announced that NEPTCO, a leading manufacturer of tapes and composites used in the fibre optics, telecommunications, and electronics industries, has integrated Cognex's SmartView™ ICN web inspection system at their manufacturing facility in Lenoir, North Carolina.

The Cognex SmartView ICN system will be used on NEPTCO's manufacturing line to check for dirt particles, gels, voids, coating streaks, and wrinkles in the adhesive coating of cover tape. Cover tape is an anti-static strip used in the packaging of surface mount devices. The cover tape seals the surface mount device into protective pockets on a substrate for delivery via tape and reel packaging.

"SmartView allows manufacturers like NEPTCO to quickly inspect defects of less than a millimeter in the most challenging applications and at full production speeds", said Markku Jaaskelainen, general manager of Cognex's Surface Inspection Systems Division. "This enables companies to enhance efficiency, improve product quality, and increase output."

SmartView ICN is a state-of-the-art web inspection system that is used to automatically detect, identify, and display defects in plastics and other materials as they are being produced. Cognex has sold over 80 SmartView ICN systems since its release in February, 2000, making it the most successful product launch in the history of Cognex's Surface Inspection Systems Division.
