Low-cost laser sensors for small part detection

Low-cost laser sensors for small part detectionKeywords: Light, Sensors

As a further development in the Balluff optical switch (BOS) product range, the new BOS18K laser sensors provide a cost-effective solution for the more demanding photoelectric applications (Plate 5).

Balluff laser photoelectric switches are particularly suited for small part detection and applications where precise switching is required, this is further aided by the brilliant visible light spot which clearly defines where the unit is sensing.

Housed in industry standard M18 threaded plastic housings, three models are available: the 50m maximum range through beam system, which at 5m detects parts down to 2.5mm; the 12m retro reflective version, when working at a range of 1m from the reflector, can detect objects of only 1mm diameter; finally, a diffuse model which has a maximum working range of 350mm, that at its focal point (50mm) will see a part as small as 0.2mm in diameter.
