Air-cooled mini thermometer handles adverse conditions

Air-cooled mini thermometer handles adverse conditionsKeywords: Temperature sensors, Infra-red

With an add-on air cooler, the Javelin infrared thermometer from Ircon provides accurate, non-contact temperature measurement in environments of up to 150° (Plate 2). To protect the lens against interfering, airborne particles an air purge unit is a further option.

Measuring just 198mm in length and 38mm in diameter, and encased in an ultra slim IP65 rated stainless steel housing, Javelin is easily installed on any machine. Offering standard (2.5m) and close (0.2m) focal distances, Javelin products cover the spectral range 4.8-14µ and have an optical resolution of D/30.

Using Javelin's two push buttons and digital display, users can quickly configure the thermopile device to match a variety of applications. The "peak picker" function ensures consistent measurement of intermittent targets or those obscured by smoke, steam or dust, emissivity is selectable from 0.1 to 1.0 in 0.1 increments, and there is a choice of five response times: l50ms, 0.4, 1, 3 and 10 seconds.

The Javelin infrared thermometer provides users with two different linear outputs, either 0 to 10V or 4 to 20mA, allowing simple interface with control and instrumentation systems. With Javelin's repeatable accuracy of ±3 per cent of reading, users are assured of high confidence in measured results.

The range of Javelin accessories also includes an add-on water cooler jacket. For water-tolerant applications, this allows non-contact temperature measurement in 150°C conditions.
