Compact opto-switch for liquid level detection from Omron

Keyword: Sensors

An innovative liquid level sensor, capable of detecting the levels of colourless or clear liquids in clear plastic pipes, has been introduced by Omron. The sensor uses the principles of total internal reflection to detect both clear and opaque liquids.

The EE-SPX613 opto-switch from Omron is suitable for detecting liquid levels in any 6 to 13mm diameter transparent or semi-transparent pipe with a wall thickness of 1mm (see Plate 5). The sensor clips on to the external wall of the pipe with the aid of a tie wrap to prevent slippage, with changes in liquid levels causing the through beam to reflect away from or towards the sensor for liquid presence or absence respectively.

The opto-switch features compact proportions, ideal for equipment miniaturisation, and also incorporates a sensitivity selector and an operation mode selector for "dark on" or "light on". In addition, a built in amplifier not only saves valuable space, but also drastically reduces wiring effort. Furthermore, a talc free cord ensures that the EE-SPX613 is ideal for equipment used for semiconductor manufacturing.
