Destined to become the "must have" text on the use and calibration of detector array equipment, this indispensable new guide is now published.

Produced by Sira Electro-Optics and The National Physical Laboratory, the 219-page volume is sponsored by the DTI National Measurement System Policy Unit. The guide, invaluable to all UK sectors using detector array equipment, is the first of its kind to cover the whole spectrum of calibration requirements. It will be essential reading for manufacturers, R&D companies and users alike, especially in demanding fields like spectrometry.

The publication covers:

  • Array types and measurement of key performance parameters.

  • Detector array instruments and requirements for calibration.

  • The effect of array performance on calibration.Best Practice guidelines for calibration, including use of equipment and sources.

The guide also contains an extensive list of references to published articles, contact names and addresses and a glossary of terms.

The authors are Sira Electro-Optics' Dr Gordon Hopkinson and NPL's Teresa M. Goodman and Stuart R. Prince. Dr Hopkinson has worked on CCD and photodiode array detectors for over 20 years at Sira and has more than 25 publications to his name. Teresa Goodman has worked on optical radiation at NPL since 1981. Stuart Prince has worked on optical radiation measurement at NPL for five years.

The guide is available from Dr Hopkinson at Sira Electro-Optics for £35. Contact Sira Electro-Optics Limited, South Hill, Chislehurst, Kent BR7 5EH. Tel: +44 (0) 20 8467 2636; Fax: +44 (0) 20 8467 6515; E-mail: info@siraeo.co.uk; www.sira.co.uk
