Applicant: Ticona GmbH (DE)Patent number: US5958787Publication date: 28 September 1999Title: Polymer sensor

The invention describes a sensor for detecting oxidizing agents such as oxides of nitrogen (NOx), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone or per acids, the sensor comprising an oxidizable aromatic polymer, such as a polyarylene ether or polyarylene thioether, as the active component. It is the object of the invention to avoid previous disadvantages and to provide a simple and reliable sensor. By using oxidizable aromatic polymers, such as polyarylene ethers or polyarylene thioethers, in sensors, it is possible to obtain sensors, for example for ozone, nitrogen dioxide or other strong oxidizing agents, having high resolution and selectivity.
