This book focuses on the fundamental coupling mechanisms that can be used in the design of electromechanical sensors and actuators and consists of three sections.
The first section, Basic Tools for Transducer Modeling, gives an introduction to the topic and discusses system models. The second addresses Transduction Mechanisms. An example of currently available sensors and actuators is given for each mechanism discussed. Topics covered in this section include Transduction based on changes in Energy Dissipation and Electric & Magnetic Fields; Piezoelectricity and Pyroelectricity; Linear Inductive Transduction Mechanisms, and Optomechanical Sensors.
Section 3, Analysis of Transducers, discusses 2-port theory, Response characteristics, transducer calibration and practical considerations.
Suitable for both students and those in the field of mechanical systems, this book is superbly written and is a joy to read.
