French manufacturer Logic Instrument has launched Tetra2 - its latest professional portable computer. Equipped with up to seven slots for ISA/PCI cards, Tetra2 is a powerful measurement, simulation and acquisition tool that combines robustness, power and reliability (Plate 10).

Specially designed for industrial environments, Tetra2 has an alodine 1,200 treated aluminium frame. It weighs less than 8kg, so can be transported and used anywhere. It is an ideal tool for instrumentation, industrial maintenance and data acquisition in all sectors: telecommunications, aviation, railways, motor industry, armed forces or for on-board PC applications.

Tetra2 has a truly user-friendly design. The back cover can be removed in a few seconds for card removal or replacement. Tetra2 adapts to the specific needs of its user - equipped with three standard peripherals (hard disk, diskette and CD-ROM drives), it is possible to add a PCMCIA drive, second removable hard disk, ZIP drive, or LS120 drive, without restricting its extension capabilities. It is available with Pentium MMX, Pentium II or Celeron processors.

In the field, Tetra2 accepts a dual integral AC/DC power supply in the ranges 110/260V and 12/30V, corresponding to the widest applications. The LCD is available in 12.1in. SVGA or 13.3in. XGA versions. Both are high-luminosity industrial LCDs (> 200 cd). A PS2 plug is fitted on the front panel, enabling the user to choose between the touch pad built into the keyboard or an external mouse.

In addition to the Tetra2 specifications, Logic Instrument offers a range of Tetra products including the TetraWide for applications requiring even more extensions (nine slots), and TetraNote A, a rugged notebook for extreme environments. With a range of other products under development, including a new portable capable of receiving CompactPCI 3U and 6U cards, Logic Instrument is aiming to become a market leader in industrial portable computers.

Logic Instrument is looking for value-added distributors of its product range in both the UK and Ireland.
