Profibus launches multi-media CD-ROM catalogue

Keywords CD-ROM, Fieldbus

Nearly 1,500 products and services from over 200 suppliers and literally thousands of international sources are the primary content of the new multi-media CD-ROM electronic product guide (EPG) launched by Profibus International.

Animated graphics and music introduce the CD-ROM, which contains product photos and company logos for the first time along with all the familiar functions of the disk-based EPG, including an advanced search facility for selecting product listings based on parameters such as vendor name, product type and protocol type. Technical information on the three Profibus solutions -PA, -FMS and -DP are also featured, along with worldwide members' lists and case studies. Over 330 new products are included and the number of products and services for the process industry has risen to 140, highlighting increased interest in Profibus-PA, the IECI 158-2 compliant version of Profibus. The catalogue can be run from the CD-ROM or installed on hard disk.

"This CD-ROM is one of the most useful fieldbus information resources to have," said Bob Squirrell, Profibus UK Chairman. "With nearly 1,500 products and services, it is more than 20 per cent bigger than the previous disk-based EPG published in December 1997, underlining the global success being enjoyed by Profibus vendors and users worldwide.

"Interestingly", Squirrell continued, "while major suppliers have continued to launch new Profibus products but real growth seems to have come from smaller companies and new members. Our claim that Profibus is a world-wide industry rather than just 'a fieldbus' is well-founded. We anticipate that this growth will continue and that Profibus will maintain its position as the world's leading fieldbus solution for both manufacturing and process automation".

The CD-ROM is available free from 20 Regional Profibus Associations (RPAs) around the world, or from any of the 650+ Profibus member companies. The Profibus Web site (www.profibus.com) now includes the full catalogue contents, including the searchable sections and a downloadable file of the latest data.
