Pixel digital chips extend markets for cost-effective CMOS imaging

Vision, a leading supplier of CMOS imaging products, has launched two new low resolution, digital output, CMOS imaging devices. These highly integrated, low cost 160 x 120 pixel image sensors boast an extensive range of features and further extend the markets for Vision's unique CMOS imaging technology.

The imaging chips are available in both monochrome and colour, and are particularly easy to use and to interface. Both colour (VV6300) and monochrome (VV5300) versions offer 8bit digital output, auto exposure, serial control and single 5V power supply. Their low cost and digital format makes these new Vision sensors ideal for applications such as low resolution security applications, videophones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), imaging toys and games and intelligent imaging. The colour version has RGB Bayer pattern filters

Both VV5300 and VV6300 feature electronic exposure and gain control over a wide range, enabling the use of a single fixed-aperture lens. A bi-directional two-wire serial communication interface allows the devices to be configured and their operating status monitored. The status information may also be multiplexed on to the digital output bus.

The VV5300 and VV6300 are two of the most cost-effective imaging devices in the market. The monochrome VV5300 will be available at below $8 for volume sales.

To facilitate design-in and product development, Vision offer a complete development system for design engineers, including PC software, capture card and control card, lens and support circuitry for $450.

Samples are available from Vision's distributors. Details can be found on Vision's Web site at www.vvl.co.uk
