ControlNet International hits the ground running

ControlNet International has hit the ground running after 82 people representing 45 manufacturing companies met last week to discuss the ControlNet technology and the new association that has been formed to support its growth. ControlNet International's first shareholders meeting, which was held in Detroit on 23 July, featured technical presentations, a general election, and an overwhelming interest in forming special interest groups.

ControlNet is a real-time, control-layer network providing for high speed transport of both time-critical I/O data and messaging data. Deterministic and repeatable, ControlNet's high-speed control and data capabilities significantly enhance I/O performance and peer-to-peer communications. Rockwell Automation recently transferred the ControlNet technology to ControlNet International so customers can be assured of its multi-vendor interoperability and openness.

At the meeting, ControlNet International members elected Gil Williams of Eaton/Cutler Hammer and Jim Krill of Omron as board members, as well as Nick Jones of S-S Technologies as a technical review board member. These newly elected members are joined by board members John Uczekaj of Honeywell and Steve Biegacki of Rockwell Automation.

ControlNet is based on an advanced technology model called Producer/Consumer, which permits all nodes on the network to simultaneously access the same data from a single source. This model makes ControlNet more efficient because data need to be produced only once regardless of the number of destinations, and precisely synchronized because the data arrive at each node at the same time.
