Editor's letter

Ordinarily I use this space to refer readers to important learning opportunities in the issue. But instead, allow me to bring to your attention some news about our publication and its team. In particular I want to herald our growing circulation and the unsung but vital work of our reviewers – both our own contributing editors and a group of outside experts.

Circulation

To my pleasant surprise, when I recently “did the math” on Strategy & Leadership’s circulation I calculated that the number of subscribers has tripled since I took over the editor’s job in 2002. Though the news that we are growing a bit in our niche is welcome, let’s keep in mind that a better indicator of reach nowadays is the fact that the articles in S&L are accessible to 15 million managers and scholars around the world via the new Emerald Management Xtra 150 database.

Manager author

When corporate senior managers make the effort to write S&L articles that recount their strategic management experiences or share a new tool they have developed, they deserve congratulations. For example, in this issue, David J. Allio, Senior Vice President of the Puerto Rican consumer products and distribution firm V. Suárez relates the ups and downs of strategic marketing.

Author’s subscriptions. To encourage more managers – and consultants and academics, as well – to undertake authorship Strategy & Leadership now offers this inducement – a one-year author’s subscription at about one-fourth the regular price. For more details on this valuable bonus contact S&L’s publisher, Kim Foster at: KFoster@emeraldinsight.com

Table of contents

PDFs of the table of contents of each issue of S&L are now available. If you would like a copy you can forward to your friends, clients, students, or co-workers, let me know. You can also view S&L’s table of contents for recently published issues on our website www.StrategyandLeadership.com

Accolades to reviewers

Several authors have recently sent me notes that contain messages of appreciation for the advice given them by S&L’s reviewers and for the review process. Because the reviewers’ work goes on behind the scenes many readers are probably unaware of the true extent of their contribution to each issue. As evidence of how important they are, an article in this issue was reviewed three times over a four-month period by a team of reviewers who guided it through two sets of revisions by the authors. When notified that their revised article had been accepted the authors wrote a gracious thank you note that said, in part, “We appreciate the feedback as it improved our paper.” Indeed it did, and so with such examples in mind, please join me in thanking the reviewers for the remarkable work they do.

Reviewers with special expertise

Much of the reviewing of manuscripts submitted to S&L is done by our veteran team of contributing editors. But we often ask other experts to participate in the review process, and as result we have established a pool of authorities. As a way of thanking these reviewers, they are listed here:

  • Thomas W. Bonnett, Public Policy Consulting;

  • Jonathan Brookfield, Tufts;

  • Jennifer K. Dominiquini, Strategos;

  • Derrick Kon, CEO Solutions (Singapore);

  • Mark McNeilly, Lenovo;

  • Bill Ralston, PGO Consulting;

  • Cynthia Barton Rabe, Zero-G Innovation and Strategy Consulting; and

  • Stephen C. Pred, Pred Materials International.
