EFTA recognises Sun Chemical as an undisputed industry leader

Article Type: Industry news From: Pigment & Resin Technology, Volume 38, Issue 5

Sun Chemical has won the Technical Achievement/Environmental Award at the European Flexographic Trade Association (EFTA) annual print awards ceremony. This award recognises the company’s commitment to developing its green credentials, whilst also acknowledging its position as an industry leader in product development and innovation.

Following Sun Chemical’s decision to take a sabbatical from the EFTA “Supplier of the Year” award after winning it five times in its existing eight years, EFTA officially acknowledged Sun Chemical as an undisputed industry leader, by promoting testimonials from key customers, Dean Stanford from Amcor Flexibles Ledbury describes the company as providing “innovative excellence and outstanding service and technical support.” The Technical Achievement/Environmental Award was presented to both Sun Chemical and co-supplier Innovia Films of Cumbria, for the development of a new sustainable combination of biodegradable film and the hybrid ink range. Solvent-based hybrid inks are a new range of sustainable solutions offered by Sun Chemical and are designed for use on biodegradable films. The series of solvent based inks uses existing NC colour bases, which are then modified with renewable materials to give an ink that is approximately 80 percent derived as a wet ink and 50 percent as a dried ink film. Sun Chemical developed these inks in conjunction with Innovia Films for use on Innovia’s NatureFlex range of films.

Joanne Watkins, European Packaging Marketing Director for Sun Chemical and Bob Flagg Innovations Manager from Innovia Films, attended a gala dinner ceremony at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, where they were presented with the awards. Ms Watkins said: “We are thrilled to pick up this award at the event. As well as reaffirming Sun Chemical’s position as a leading technology innovator, the NatureFlex film project in conjunction with Innovia Films, is also a fine example of why Sun Chemical is repeatedly recognised as being a leading industry supplier by members of EFTA.”

“The project illustrates how Sun Chemical works closely with its partners and customers to realise their new aspirations and goals, responding to customer needs and market trends.”
