Bollig & Kemper signs license agreement
Article Type: Industry news From: Pigment & Resin Technology. Volume 37, Issue 3.
Du Pont and Bollig & Kemper (Cologne, Germany) announced, that they have signed a license agreement for Du Pont's patented “EcoConcept” automotive coatings technology. The waterborne-basecoat product technology is combined with application process innovation to consolidate the automotive assembly paint line for cost reduction, higher unit production yield with productivity and lower emissions benefits. The concept eliminates one coating layer, the primer-surfacer and combines it into a modified compliant waterborne- basecoat. Under the license agreement Bollig & Kemper will manufacture and sell waterborne-basecoats for use in the “EcoConcept” process at automotive manufacturing plants and the automotive supplier industry. The technology is currently used at two Volkswagen plants in Mexico and Spain, where approx. 200.000 cars have been produced in this process.
