Article Type: Industry news From: Pigment & Resin Technology. Volume 37, Issue 3.
To meet the rise in demand for waterborne-coatings in China and its surrounding region, Bayer material science's coatings, adhesives and sealants (CAS) business unit is currently ramping up its production capabilities at the Bayer integrated site Shanghai. “We are building a new production facility for environment friendly waterborne-polyurethane (PU) dispersions for coatings and adhesives. The facility will have an annual capacity of 20,000 tons and is on track to come onstream in the second quarter of 2008,” said Meyer. Earlier this year, the CAS business unit expanded the capacity for aromatic polyisocyanate “Desmodur L” from 11,000 metric tons/year to 20,500 metric tons/year in Shanghai. It is also currently doubling its capacity for “Desmodur” IL to 5,500 metric tons/ year, and increasing its capacity for “Desmodur N.”
