Solvay Advanced Polymers completes first phase of major sulfone polymers expansion plan
Article Type: Industry news From: Pigment
Solvay Advanced Polymers, makers of more plastics with more performance, announced recently the completion of two major expansion projects as part of its multi-phase, comprehensive sulfone expansion plan. Solvay Advanced Polymers, one of the world's leading suppliers of sulfone polymers, commissioned its new Radel sulfone assets at its Marietta, Ohio facility, nearly tripling its production capability. In addition, the company has expanded its sulfone assets in Augusta, Georgia, increasing that site's production of the key monomer, 4-4 dichlorodiphenyl sulfone.
With the completion of these recent expansion efforts and the start of its phase two projects, Solvay Advanced Polymers will invest well in excess of $100m in growing its leadership position in sulfone polymer and monomer production. The company's strategic sulfone plan also includes its intention to further develop production assets and capabilities at its sites in Asia.
“We are very pleased with the progress we have made in meeting an aggressive expansion target,” explained Roger Kearns, President & CEO of Solvay Advanced Polymers. “We are moving forward and will begin the next phase of our growth plan to meet sustained customer demand by year's end. It's a testament to the planning, preparation and work by our entire sulfone team and, more importantly, the performance and value our products deliver our customers.”
Solvay Advanced Polymers is a global leader in sulfone polymer development, serving the needs of customers in demanding industries such as healthcare, aerospace, automotive, membranes and plumbing. The company is a founding innovator of sulfone polymers with the introduction of Udel PSU more than 40 years ago.
“We take great pride in our legacy of developing and growing sulfone opportunities across many high-end markets and end-use applications,” commented Doug Brademeyer, Sulfones Business Director. “Included in our expansion are investments in R&D for next generation sulfone technologies. We're very excited about serving our customers' sulfone needs now, and well into the future.”
