Thermo electron achieves seventy years of analytical excellence in optical emission and X-ray spectroscopy

Thermo Electron Corporation’s (NYSE:TMO) long tradition of innovation in atomic spectroscopy spans seven decades of technical innovation and recent additions to the ARL line of instruments are testament to this enduring expertise. The journey began in 1934 when Dr Maurice Hasler, who was fascinated by the capability of optical emission spectroscopy to produce, in minutes, chemical analysis that would normally take hours to perform by wet chemistry, borrowed a diffraction grating and built his own spectrograph.

Since the introduction of this spectrograph in 1934, the ARL range has seen a significant number of groundbreaking achievements. They include the first optical emission direct-reading polychromator, the ARL QUANTOMETER (1946), the world’s first multichannel X-ray Fluorescence, the ARL PCQ Production Control Quantometer (1953), the first computer-controlled Quantometer, the ARL LPG 21 (1963), the first optical emission dual spectrometer system, the ARL 3580 (1981) and many others.

    ARL QUANTRIS – a state-of-the-art second generation CCD-based OE system for analytical performance at the level of PMT spectrometers.

    ARL QuantoDesk – Thermo Electron’s smallest CCD-based metals analyzer. This flexible benchtop instrument is designed to provide quantitative as well as qualitative analysis for operation in harsh environments.

  3. 3.

    ARL ADVANT’X+ – a new model of the ARL ADVANT’X sequential XRF spectrometer series. Compared to its predecessor, the power of the X-ray tube has been doubled to 1,200 W, which further improves the limits of detection and precision.
