Printing Research Inc. (PRI), has announced the release of its new zone ultraviolet curing system.
The system is available for most sheet-fed and flexo printing applications and radically departs from conventional UV systems on several fronts, claimed the company. Dave Douglas, Vice-President of Business Development at PRI, said: “We wanted to build a system that any print shop could realistically consider”. Rather than placing long UV bulbs across the entire width of the press, the system utilises several short bulbs placed diagonally in the direction of the run of the press. That allows each bulb to be individually controlled creating differing areas of coverage and intensity. Zone is also said to eliminate the expensive chilled-water cooling found on conventional systems by incorporating highly efficient forced air cooling chambers and extraction. Very little heat actually dissipates into nearby press areas. The entire system is managed by a touch-screen control panel allowing the user control over all aspects of its operation. “With the economies provided by this system, both in terms of investment and use, there's no reason a print shop can't be offering UV and hybrid resources to its clients,” Douglas said.
