New range of hotplates and stirrers
Keywords: Liquids, Heat, Equipment
In Schott's opinion laboratory managers seeking efficient and accurate instrumentation to heat and stir liquids need look no further than its new range of hotplates and stirrers. All Schott laboratory hotplates and stirrers are stated to comply with international quality standards and their CERAN glass-ceramic heating surfaces are reported to be resistant to chemicals and temperature shocks of more than 700°C. Dirt and spillages can be simply wiped off the pore-free flat surfaces and because devices are controlled using infrared touch-control technology, cleaning and servicing are kept to a bare minimum (Plate 7).

The range includes the SLK 1 and SLK 2 hotplates which claim heating power of 1.2kW and 1.8kW respectively with virtually homogenous temperature distribution. Both are made with a duroplastic casing that is stated to be corrosion-resistant and non- flammable. An optional temperature sensor can be connected to the SLK 2T version for applications that require temperature- controlled heating. Temperatures can be controlled between 35°C and 199°C, with actual and set temperatures easily monitored on a state-of-the-art LED display.
The SLR offers stirring and heating, with each function controlled separately so that liquids can be mixed at varying speeds and temperatures. The SLK 6 is thought to be ideal for laboratories needing a little more flexibility as it combines a powerful heating plate on one side with a hotplate and stirrer on the other.
