Electronic stroke counter

Electronic stroke counter

Keywords: Yamada, Pumps

An electronic stroke counter, introduced by Yamada pump distributors CT Technical Products (Plate 7), is reported to effectively convert any Yamada air operated diaphragm pump into a dosing unit, which can be programmed to stop pumping after a set number of strokes.

On dosing or batching systems calling for the delivery of finite volumes of liquid, it offers a low-cost control option and brings to these applications the many extra benefits of using an air-operated diaphragm pump.

According to Yamada, its aod pumps can handle almost any liquid, from clear water and thin volatiles to very viscous products, and including abrasive and chemically aggressive fluids.

The pumps are available in a wide choice of materials for body, diaphragms and valves to suit the application. Sizes range from 1/4in. up to 3in. and maximum flows from 10l/min. up to 800l/min.

The manufacturers point out that with no moving parts in contact with the liquid, and no rotating parts to wear, the pumps need virtually no maintenance. They can start from dry and are self-priming. For dosing applications, using the stroke counter, the pump is supplied complete with integral proximity sensor, cable and counter unit. Also required is a solenoid valve (optionally available from CT) installed in the air inlet line to shut down the pump when the set number of strokes has been reached. Resetting of the counter can be controlled manually or automatically.

Applications already noted for the new stroke counter are said to include colour batching during paint and nail varnish manufacture and the precise addition of cleaning chemicals to water in central cip systems.
