President for Paint Club

Keyword: Birmingham Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Club

The Birmingham Paint, Varnish and Lacquer Club has a new president, Gina Walker. Gina, who is technical development manager for Ellis & Everard, will represent the Club and its 50 UK members as president. The Club's influence in the paint industry has grown since it was first set up in 1936 and it now enjoys a position of high regard. Regular consultation and joint membership with other technical bodies has fostered a free exchange of ideas and information between technologists in the paint, varnish, lacquer and allied industries.

Liaison with education authorities and provision of teachers for technical college paint courses, technical discussions and meetings with supplier industries and consultation with government officials on statutory requirements and regulations are all examples of the Club's growing activities.

The Club is believed to be the only UK, and in fact, European body to be a constituent member of the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology, an international organisation which provides technical education and professional development to the global coatings industry.

Gina has been a member of the Club since 1984 and a serving officer for the last 11 years, becoming involved in a wide variety of activities including publicity, social events and serving on the technical committee. Gina is one of only a few Club members to receive the Distinguished Service Award for her invaluable contribution in 1995.

Her main role as technical development manager for Ellis & Everard's Industrial Specialities involves direct sales as well as coordinating development activities with one of their major suppliers NeoResins (formerly Zeneca resins). Gina also organises Ellis & Everard's appearance at the bi-annual UK coatings exhibition, Surfex, which next year is being held in Harrogate.
