New directors head PPG Industries' coatings, glass and fiber glass research and development (R&D) at technical centers near Pittsburgh.
Roger L. Scriven is director of coatings research and development at the Allison Park coatings research center. He succeedes Gerald W. Gruber, former vice president of coatings R&D who was recently named corporate vice president of science and technology.
Succeeding Scriven as director of glass R&D at the Hatmar Township glass technology center is Andrew Calabrese, manager of flat glass products technology transfer since 1991.
Charles H. Smith, formerly director of technology, Johnson Matthey Electronics, San Diego, joins PPG as director of the O'Hara Township fiber glass technical center. He succeeds Jaap H.A. van der Woude, previously named managing director, manufacturing, PPG Industries Fiber Glass B.V., Hoogezand, The Netherlands, and director of European fiber glass R&D.
