Millennium Inorganic Chemicals ("Millennium") announce that the expansion of its Stallingborough, UK, facility to 150,000 metric tonnes, which was begun in early 1996, is on schedule for full start-up effective 1 January 1999. Officials at the company noted that the construction and start-up are running on schedule and on budget. As part of the construction plan, a five-week plant shutdown took place from 6 September 1998 to implement process tie-ins along with annual maintenance.

As part of the planning for the extended shutdown, the building of finished product inventory was accomplished to assure no interruption of supply to Millennium's European customers. "We planned for this shutdown for the past year", commented Stuart Esler, director of European sales and marketing. "We brought in product from our other production facilities to fulfil all customer orders so that service levels remain constant across the board."
