High performance Polyfil II microfiltration range

High performance Polyfil II microfiltration range

Utilising the latest developments in filtration technology, BTR Environmental Vokes Ltd has introduced Polyfil II a new range of high efficiency filter cartridges designed for the microfiltration of gases and liquids in processing applications where regular absolute filtration with minimal extractables is required. Fitted as either a prefilter or final filter, the Vokes Polyfil II cartridges provide vastly improved performance over competitor products, offering superior particle retention capacity without reducing filter life (see Plate 3).

New Vokes Polyfil II cartridges incorporate the latest polypropylene, melt-blown, microfiber filter media to give particle retention ratings from 0.5 to 90µ microns with an absolute Beta (ßx) ratio of >= 5,000 (99.98 per cent). The innovative pleated media construction, combined with a large filtration area of between 0.4 and 0.6m2 per 10in. module, claims an unrivalled dirt-holding capacity and, at the same time, ensures high flow rates through the media at a low differential pressure, so extending the filter life. The continuously graded pore structure permits the first two layers to provide prefiltration while the final layer provides the absolute rating. This specially developed Vokes media is also stated to be structurally stable, preventing fibre release and channelling, while virtually eliminating particle unloading even under impulse conditions.

Vokes Polyfil II cartridges are robustly constructed for improved performance and durability. It is believed that a patented method of fusion bonding the polypropylene components guarantees cartridge integrity, eliminating any extractables derived from the bonding agents and minimising the risk of by-passing. Because of the polypropylene construction, the cartridges also have excellent chemical compatibility characteristics. The maximum recommended continuous operating temperature is 60°C, although cartridges can be repeatedly steam sterilised or autoclaved up to 130°C. For ease of disposal all spent Polyfil II cartridges can be readily incinerated.

The new range can be equally effective as final filters in process applications or as prefilters in sub-micron membrane filtration systems. Among a diverse range of suitable microfiltration applications are the batch filtration of high grade chemicals and reagents, the clarification of food and beverages and the preparation of process waters and chemicals used in semiconductor manufacture, pharmaceutical and bioprocessing applications. Polyfil II cartridges can also be used for microfiltration in sensitised film processing, coatings and inks production, electroplating, process water, industrial gases and oil recovery applications.

Available in single or multiple module units of 5in., 10in., 20in., 30in., 40in. and in special lengths to suit individual customer requirements, cartridges are manufactured in a range of 15 particle retention ratings. Designed for both Vokes filter housings and as direct replacements for existing cartridges, Vokes Polyfil II cartridges are also supplied with a wide variety of end fittings to suit most hardware installations without the need for modification and are available with a range of complementary net sleeve cartridges.
