New release of DB/TextWorks 6.0

Inmagic, Inc., a global provider of content and information management software and services, has announced the release of version 6.0 of its flagship product, DB/TextWorks®, a special combination of database and text retrieval software that enables users to build networked and stand-alone textbases to manage diverse types of information including text, images and multimedia.

DB/TextWorks 6.0 features the ability to use a thesaurus as a validation list, which allows users to share a substitution list across fields or textbases. This ensures consistency in data entry as well as searching.

"Having the ability to create and maintain a thesaurus, which also serves as a validation list across several databases, is a real plus", states Margaret Gross, librarian and information officer for EMS Technologies. "Consistent use of descriptors makes searching so much easier. Precision is what you get when you combine retrieval by controlled vocabulary along with free-text searching."

"The ability to share validation lists among textbases is one of our most frequently requested feature enhancements", states Phil Green, CEO of Inmagic. "We're happy to listen to the requests of our customers."

Highlights of DB/TextWorks 6.0 include: the ability to receive search results in XML format, the ability to submit a canned query and an accompanying barcode generator application. DB/Text WebPublisher can be added for a fully integrated database system that will give an organisation the capability to store, search and obtain information (text, multimedia and images) on the Web.

Inmagic's BiblioTech PRO 2.4 released

Inmagic, Inc. has announced the release of BiblioTechPRO® 2.4, an enterprise-wide integrated library system (ILS). BiblioTech PRO 2.4 features customisable keyword, multifield, and document/report number search windows, with an option to add all or selected citations to new or pre-existing bibliographies. "Giving information professionals the ability to customise the search window in the BiblioTech PRO system allows users to more effectively integrate content into browser-based systems and services", states Susan Stearns, VP of marketing at Inmagic. "With BiblioTech PRO 2.4, search windows can be consistent with the look and feel of any enterprise-wide intranet."

BiblioTech PRO provides a comprehensive suite of workflow tools to manage diverse types of information in corporate and government libraries and information resource centres. BiblioTech PRO modules enable information professionals to perform a variety of special library functions including: catalogue browsing, Boolean searching, circulation; borrower file, catalogue and authority maintenance; acquisitions, thesaurus control, periodical update, check-in, routing and accounting. BibSpeed PRO, a Web-enabling option for searching a BiblioTech PRO database, allows users with intranet access to search via an Internet Web browser.

Inmagic's DB/Text® WebPublisher 6.0 released

Inmagic, Inc. has announced the release of DB/Text® WebPublisher 6.0 with XML support, a Windows solution for publishing, managing, and sharing content on corporate intranets and the Web.

With XML support, information professionals can now integrate data from internal and external sources and make them available on the World Wide Web. XML makes it easy to design reports and present data in whatever format required because it simplifies communication among diverse systems and content repositories. "You can view XML as the bridge between the two worlds of structured (relational) and unstructured (document) data", says Bill Trippe, New Millennium Publishing. "As Inmagic products have been bridging the worlds of structured and unstructured data for 20 years, XML fits very naturally into our product lines", states Susan Stearns, VP of marketing at Inmagic.

With the added XML support, DB/Text WebPublisher users can effortlessly transfer data between different products including XSL (Extensible Stylesheet Language) editors and third party tools such as:

  • Microsoft FrontPage;

  • Cold Fusion;

  • Macromedia Dreamweaver;

  • ASP.NET;

  • Microsoft Excel.

Because XML is standards-based, XML support in DB/Text WebPublisher also makes it simpler to integrate with other systems, greatly improving acceptance within organisations' IT departments.

Inmagic® Gatherer and Inmagic® Classifier released

Inmagic, Inc. has announced the release of Inmagic Gatherer, a spider that crawls specified inhouse servers and Web sites, and Inmagic Classifier, an out-of-the-box solution that provides classification technology based on semantic and syntactic knowledge. Through automated searching and classification, Inmagic's Gatherer and Classifier provide "just-in-time knowledge management" for organisations, supplying improved management, dissemination, and utilisation of information assets.

"The information-based economy is in danger of drowning in a sea of irrelevant, unstructured data", states The Delphi Group in Taxonomy and Content Classification, a market milestone report. This quandary is commonly referred to as "infoglut" (see www.delphigroup.com/coverage/taxonomy.htm).

"Although taxonomy software cannot completely stem the tide of 'infoglut"', continues the white paper, "it can help us find the information we need to survive and prosper in the new knowledge-based economy. Taxonomy software can reduce our reaction time to make informed and timely business decisions based on knowledge and information contained within the unstructured data of an organisation's digital documents."

With this need in mind, Inmagic has partnered with TopicalNetSM, a leader in developing automated content classification technology and business analytical solutions, to provide the best searching and categorisation capabilities for its customers.

Inmagic Gatherer extracts content from the most popular file types and formats (such as HTML, Text, Microsoft Office, and PDF), allowing the content to be loaded directly into the appropriate Inmagic DB/TextWorks® knowledgebase, IntelliMagicTM, Inmagic's market intelligence system, or passed on to Inmagic Classifier.

Inmagic Classifier incorporates a prebuilt taxonomy of close to one million categories, providing automated categorisation and ensuring that new and dynamic information is kept current and relevant. Inmagic Classifier is completely scalable, from files on a single PC to systems with 60 million pages.

Inmagic Gatherer provides organisations with the ability to manage easily the acquisition of large amounts of electronically stored data, normalise it, and prepare it for further processing, and Inmagic Classifier automatically and accurately classifies pages on the Internet and within corporate intranets and extranets. By providing a roadmap of the content, Inmagic allows its customers to better manage, disseminate and utilise their assets, thereby improving user satisfaction and increasing revenues.

"With nearly 250 megabytes of information for every person, the organisation of critical information is a major issue for most business professionals", states Susan Stearns, VP of marketing at Inmagic. "With the addition of Inmagic's Gatherer and Classifier, we have successfully addressed that issue with a comprehensive solution. Inmagic Gatherer harvests relevant content from inhouse servers and Internet sites, and Inmagic Classifier organises that content using automated classification and a pre-built taxonomy. With these products, the customer gets 'just-in-time knowledge management'."

"TopicalNet's goal is to produce high quality, easy-to-use, cost-effective software to help transform data into actionable information", states Dr John Mucci, co-founder and EVP of TopicalNet (www.topicalnet.com). "Having shattered the ease-of-use and cost barriers, the benefits of 'just-in-time knowledge management' can accrue to all of Inmagic's many customers, all of whom already understand the benefits of actionable information."

Inmagic is a global provider of content and information management software and services that organise and deliver enterprise content, seamlessly integrate both internal and external content sources and deploy business-critical information to corporate portals, intranets, extranets, and the Web. Specific applications include market, business and competitive intelligence, library automation, litigation support, and Web publishing.
