Note from the publisher

New publisher for 2002

Program: electronic library and information systems is now published by Emerald. Emerald acquired Program: electronic library and information systems and seven other titles from Aslib, The Association for Information Management in December 2001. The acquisition positions Emerald as the leading publisher of library and information journals, now with 24 information management titles.

Program: electronic library and information systems will be published in association with Aslib, The Association for Information Management. Emerald will work in partnership with Aslib to continue to provide Aslib members with journals as a benefit of their membership.

The new ownership brings many access benefits to subscribers, including:

  1. 1.

    Internet online publishing and archiving – in addition to the printed journal your subscription includes Internet access via Emerald Fulltext to information as it becomes available online and to material from past volumes. Using the powerful search engine, users can search the database by author, article title, journal title, keywords and fulltext. Browsing is also available, as well as an advanced search engine.

  2. 2.

    Institution wide licence – our liberal licence allows everyone within your institution to access the journal via the Internet. It has been designed to provide a comprehensive, simple system with minimum administration. Access can be granted by IP range or user name and password.

  3. 3.

    Emerald Alert – provides personal e-mail notification of new articles published online, ensuring that users are kept up to date with the latest research. Emerald Alert includes:

  4. 4.
    • TOC (Table of Contents) of any chosen journal;

    • weekly/monthly digests;

    • saved search alert options.

  5. 5.

    Reference linking – direct links from the journal article references to abstracts of the most influential articles cited. Where possible, this link is to the fulltext of the article.

  6. 6.

    Automatic permission to make up to 25 copies of individual articles – for teaching purposes, training courses, meetings and seminars etc. (This only applies to articles of which Emerald/MCB own copyright).

In 2002, Program: electronic library and information systems will continue to publish peer-reviewed papers based on research and practice on all aspects of the management and use of information technology in libraries and archives, museums and galleries, information centres, and the information industry generally.
