The Land Registry published its quarterly residential property price report, covering the period October-December 1999.
This report compares average prices and volume of sales with those for the same period in 1998. It also gives a breakdown of the average sale prices of old and new properties, by property type.
The following information is contained in the report: October-December 1999 v. October-December 1998 (Table XX).

All economic regions in England and Wales showed an increase in average prices.

The average price increased by 15.23 per cent from £83,905 in 1998 to £96,687 in 1999.

The volume of sales increased by 19 per cent from 206,611 in 1998 to 245,876 in 1999.
Greater London
- •
The average property price increased by 23.06 per cent from £128,083 in 1998 to £157,624 in 1999.
- •
The volume of sales rose by 22.42 per cent from 28,858 in 1998 to 35,327 in 1999.
