Having worked with patients who have suffered from the effects of various medications and food components and nutrients this book is invaluable for the libraries of dietetic and also pharmacy departments.

The book is written by various experts and is easy to read and includes not only prescribed medications but also foods and beverages such as those containing caffeine, alcohol, fruit juices, herbs and items used in complementary medicine.

There is an excellent index, which enables one to look up items quickly and easily.

The book is split into various sections:

  • Part 1 which included the approaches to the interactions and discusses mode of drug actions.

  • Part 2 which covers nutrient status on drugs and primarily covers malnutrition and overweight and obesity.

  • Part 3 details the influence of food, nutrients and supplements on the effect of drugs.

  • Part 4 looks at the influence of medication on the nutritional status.

  • Part 5 covers the different life stages and drug‐nutrient interaction.

  • Part 6 examines drug‐nutrient interactions in specific conditions.

There are excellent tables and diagrams throughout as well as thorough references at the end of each section.

I found this book easy to use as a reference and one that made me want to keep looking further.
