Having worked with people who are HIV positive in the past I wished this book had been available then.

The book is written by experts and edited by a specialist dietitian. It covers all aspects of the disorder plus managing the condition from a nutritional point of view.

It includes:

  • an introduction which included basic information about diagnosis and the state of the epidemic plus key information on nutrition;

  • paediatric nutrition, maternal and child health covering mother to child transmission of HIV as well as screening, healthy eating and management;

  • nutritional management of the HIV disease state provides a plethora of excellent information on all aspects of nutrition;

  • healthy living and long‐term management discusses all aspects of lifestyle;

  • nutritional management of HIV and co‐morbidities; and

  • palliative, end of life care provides a sensitive approach to this difficult subject.

There is also a good set of appendices as well as thorough references throughout.

I found this book both easy to read and also the type of book one can easily dip into. It is a must for any dietitian or anyone who deals with this area of practice.
