Milupa Pre-Aptamil now with patented prebiotic

A reformulation of Milupa Pre-Aptamil, the formula for the nutritional needs of preterm and low birth weight infants, was launched in April. The new formulation meets internationally recognised nutrition guidelines for preterm babies.

The reformulated Milupa Pre-Aptamil has been developed in response to the recommendations of the Tsang et al. (2005) guidelines1 after consultation with global opinion leaders in the field. The reformulation now also contains the prebiotic mix, IMMUNOFORTIS, patented by Milupa Aptamil. IMMUNOFORTIS is inspired by the prebiotics naturally found in breastmilk. Prebiotics are oligosaccharides – food for the friendly bacteria in the gut which support a baby's natural immune system.

IMMUNOFORTIS supports a baby's natural immune system and now preterm infants can gain the benefits of these prebiotics. Prebiotics work in a number of ways: increasing the growth of friendly bacteria and decreasing the presence of pathogens in the gut flora, improving stool viscosity, transit time and characteristics and possibly helping with enteral feeding tolerance and advancement.

Milupa Pre-Aptamil is available in two formats, a 400g tin of powder and 60ml ready to feed bottles. Milupa Pre-Aptamil also manufactures premature teats for use with preterm infants.
