World Food Market London 2005 – ethnic and speciality foods, 23 and 24 November 2005

This took place at Halls North 1-3, Excel London, One Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Dock, London.

This event showcased an exhibition with a number of stands of various foods from all over the world. There was a prominence of Asian delicacies which were both sweet and savoury. There were also stands showing other foods such as from Israel, Turkey and the Middle East to mention but a few countries.

The show was attended by predominantly caterers from all sorts of establishments both the high street takeaway as well as the large catering chains.

There was a concurrent educational programme, which was well attended. The programme for this included:

  • Traceability, product recalls and responsibilities of food operators according to EC regulation 178/2002 - Jean Feord, Business Manager Legislation.

  • Leatherhead Food International.

  • Quality, hygiene and standards - Kevin Swoffer, Head of Technical Services, British Retail Consortium.

  • Formulating a good category management strategy for ethnic and speciality foods - Richard Stiles, National Account Manager (Asda).

  • Rice: quality, authenticity and future trends by Damian Testa, Secretary General, The UK Rice Association, Dr Mark Woolf, Head of Food Authenticity Branch - Enforcement Division, Food Standards Agency, Charlie Fillingham, Managing Director, Westmill Foods (A Division of ABF Grain Products Ltd).

  • Ethnic food for thought: Sir Gulam Noon’s inspirational rise from ready meals to Knight of the Realm - Sir Gulam Noon MBE.
