Understanding the relationship between food and our genes is key to promoting healthy living and preventing chronic disease. Genetic testing and individually prescribed diets go to the very heart of our "Big Brother" fears. How can scientists address these issues?

The presentations included:

  • What is nutritional genomics, and what dilemmas does it raise? By Dr Astley, The European Nutrigenomics Organisation – Communications Manager Institute of Food Research.

  • "They're my genes" – The bioethics debate surrounding human genome research. By Dr Oonagh Corrigan Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Cambridge, and Cambridge Genetics Knowledge Park.

  • The results so far – The effect of vitamin C on the human genome – can stress make us healthier? By Dr Marcus Cooke, Senior Lecturer, Department of Cancer Studies University of Leicester.
