There is a lack of practical books on nutrition. Discovering Nutrition takes one through the basics of nutrition.
It covers, in four sections:
- 1.
(1) Nutrients in the Environment.
- 2.
(2) Nutrients in the Body.
- 3.
(3) Physiological Aspects of Nutrition.
- 4.
(4) Social and Economic Aspects of Nutrition.
Each section begins with key points and ends with a chapter test. The answers to the tests are given at the back of the book. This is invaluable for the reader in checking their progress.
It is written by a US author and uses the US model used for nutrition education in the USA.
The information it contains is excellent and it could be useful for undergraduates to read to expand their knowledge.
However, the book has relatively few diagrams and is very text‐heavy; therefore the reader would already need to have an understanding of nutrition and commitment to working through the book.
