Your guide to the NHS

This new publication was launched recently as a replacement for the old style Patient's Charter. The new guide explains patient's rights now and in the future. It will ensure that patients are fully informed about the new services currently and new services available to them throughout the NHS. The guide explains clearly and concisely where to go to get the most appropriate treatment, where to get further information and sets out the national standards of the services patients can expect now and in the future. It also underlines the responsibilities which the patient has towards the NHS. For example, over a million appointments are missed each year where patients have not informed the clinic they were unable to attend. This means that patients who could have taken these appointments are unable to do so and are kept waiting longer. Copies of Your Guide to the NHS can be obtained from the NHS Health Literature Line on 0800555777 or from the NHS Web site at www:nhs.uk/nhsguide.
