Soy-rich diets and osteoporosis

Haldane Foods who produce soya-based foods has welcomed new research from Japan which suggests that postmenopausal women who consume soya-rich diets have stronger bones. During the menopause oestrogen levels fall but plant oestrogens or phytoestrogens found in soya can help alleviate some of the problems many women experience at the time of the menopause. The study of 478 postmenopausal Japanese women who had a high intake of isoflavones, compounds found in soya with a similar chemical structure to oestrogen, had significantly thicker bones than women with the lowest level of isoflavones.
