Healthy eating and convenience foods
Healthy eating and convenience foods
An exclusive survey for The Grocer released recently by Taylor Nelson, based on a representative sample of 1,007 adults, found that 64 per cent of UK residents look for convenience foods that are fresh and unprocessed. Over a quarter of those surveyed look to see if the convenience food product is preservative, colouring or additive-free when consulting a label. Three out of ten check the label to assess the calorie contents, though women are more likely to look for this information than men, and 52 per cent of those surveyed say that they are concerned at the number of ingredients in processed foods. Around two-thirds of the over-25s agreed that they look for fresh and unprocessed convenience foods compared with only 58 per cent of 16 to 24-year olds. "Convenience" appears to be about food that is simple and easy to prepare but also about food that is healthy.
