Adoption rises

John Hutton, Minister for Health, has reported that the number of children adopted from care has increased by 10 per cent to 2,200 in the year to March 1999. Adoption is a key priority of the present government and it aims to raise standards of care for children across the country. The figures for children placed for adoption and the number adopted are rising. John Hutton called for an end to the postcode lottery and said that there must be equal application of high standards across the country. It is important to listen to children's views and provide the very best quality service to them and to parents.
