Fairchild Semiconductor's IntelliMAX™ series in space-efficient, 2 x 2mm green MLP package provides 45 per cent improved thermal dissipation in portables

FPF214X and FPF216X series of MLP-packaged advanced load switches provide full system protection for wireless, mobile and personal electronics operating between 1.8 and 5.5V.

San Jose, California – 24 July 24, 2007 – Fairchild Semiconductor's (NYSE: FCS) FPF214X and FPF216X series of IntelliMAX™ advanced load switches feature superior thermal performance and full system protection for portable applications operating between 1.8 and 5.5V. Available in a 2×2mm green- compliant MicroFETTM MLP package, this new series offers 45 per cent enhanced thermal performance compared to traditional SOT-23 packages. These highly integrated advanced load switches simplify design, reduce component count and minimise board space by integrating a 0.11Ω current-limited P- channel MOSFET with protection and control features, including thermal shutdown, controlled turn-on, reverse- current blocking and under-voltage lockout.

“Fairchild's IntelliMAX integrated load switch solutions with higher current limits up to 1,500mA and 2×2mm MLP packaging offer critical protection features and thermal efficiency for small-form-factor power management designs,” said Chris Winkler, Marketing Director, Low- Voltage Power Segment. “The latest portable applications, such as smart phones and integrated MP3/video media players, are packed with features that require additional battery-charging and auxiliary power supplied through a USB connector or other accessory interface. By integrating important functionality into an ultra- compact MLP package, these advanced load switches are ideal for today's new slimmer and lighter portable electronics.”

Key features of the FPF214X and FPF216X series include:

  • Ultra-compact and thermally efficient 2×2mm MLP packaging that improves thermal dissipation by 45 per cent.

  • Power “Good” signal to indicate stable output power signal for software management in power- sequencing applications.

  • Integrated current limiting with fast limiting response time (5μs for nominal over current conditions) with fixed (up to 400mA) and adjustable current-limit options (up to 1,500mA).

  • Additional reverse-current function to protect against reverse-current flow conditions in accessory or battery-powered applications.

Fairchild offers the industry's broadest portfolio of IntelliMAX advanced load switch solutions. These products provide a unique combination of protection and control features that reduce board space, component count and design complexity in power management designs.
