LSI APP3300 advanced communication processor offers new levels of real-time service delivery for next-generation access networks
LSI Corporation has announced the new APP3300 advanced communication processor with an embedded security protocol processing engine for wire-line and wireless access markets. The APP3300 builds on the best-in-class traffic processing technology proven in the LSI APP300, which has been successfully deployed in high volume by Tier 1 network equipment suppliers in service provider networks around the world. The APP3300 offers a significant increase in service classification and real-time secure service delivery for next-generation access networks.
By migrating the network backhaul from T1/E1 leased lines to lower-cost Ethernet lines, the APP3300 enables service providers to offer secure high- bandwidth services while saving up to 80 per cent in operational costs. In wireless network applications like node- B and base stations, the APP3300 forms the heart of the network interface card and ensures that quality, reliability and security metrics are met in the face of increased traffic throughput from new mobile standards like HSPA, LTE and WiMAX.
Linley Group Senior Analyst Bob Wheeler observed, “LSI has built upon their success in the access space to further raise the bar on integration and price-performance with the APP3300. The APP3300 is well positioned with higher capacity, a rich set of interfaces and interesting new features such as a powerful security protocol processor, especially important for IP-based mobile networks.”
In wire-line networks, flat-rate access fees are causing service provider revenues to drop while broadband traffic is rapidly increasing. The APP3300 provides unique service- awareness required by multiservice access nodes, enabling differentiated control and billing. An embedded security protocol processor adds critical subscriber protection and isolation while maintaining carrier- grade traffic management. Service providers will benefit from more efficiently allocated network capacity based on carrier assigned quality of service, especially when deploying new services like IPTV and VoD over VDSL2 and PON architectures.
About the APP3300
The APP3300 family offers up to 3.5Gbps of deterministic data-path bandwidth independent of control plane load and drives down service equipment cost by integrating external devices: dual ARM11 CPUs for 700 DMIPS of service and control plane processing; integrated security processor and PKA accelerator with 1.5Gbps of IPsec/ SRTP encryption performance; carrier- class traffic management with up to 16,000 queues and five levels of hierarchy; dual-mode 1.5/2.5G integrated SerDes to enable next- generation backplane deployments.
The APP3300 is available today in several device configurations and price points targeted for the complete range of access applications, along with application-specific software packages and turnkey platform solutions.
