Sensor Products Inc. unveils Pressure Points® tactile force indicating films. Pressure Points represent a new cost effective and convenient method of utilizing Pressurex tactile pressure sensor film ("TPSF"). Pressure Points, a useful metrology tool in assessing magnitude and distribution of compressive loads in contacting or impacting surfaces, has application in both machine/component inspection and calibration processes (Figure 1).

Figure 1

Each Pressure Point sensor film comes pre- packaged in a ready-to-use blister sealed pouch. Pressure Points are available in sizes ranging from 0.3 in. (0.8 cm) to 1in. (2.5 cm) diameter. "The pouch," Stark continued, "has a clear window on one side for viewing the pressure film and a pressure sensitive adhesive on the back enabling the sensor to be quickly and easily affixed to any surface. The user simply places the Pressure Point sensor at a specific location of an interface. When force is applied, the sensor film instantaneously and permanently changes color. The intensity of this color is proportional to the amount of force applied, allowing the user to actually quantify the stress characteristics across the contacting surface.'' Precise PSI (kg/cm2) can be determined by comparison of the Pressure Point to a color calibration chart (conceptually similar to interpreting Litmus paper), or by using one of the several imaging systems that Sensor Products supplies.
