IPC issues call for participation for optoelectronics conference

IPC has announced a call for participation in the IPC International Conference on Optoelectronics, taking place June 12-13, 2002, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in San Francisco, Calif.

Dr. Ken Gilleo, Cookson Performance Solutions, will chair the second annual conference, entitled "An Exploration of Photonics in Electronics Manufacturing."

"Already a major player in imaging and microvia technology, the photon itself is fast becoming the critical, information-carrying unit in telecommunication products and other applications," said Bob Vitas, IPC vice president of Professional Development. "IPC, in cooperation with Cookson Electronics, has created this conference to point out the enormous implications Photonics will have on the future of the electronics manufacturing industry."

Papers and presentations are being sought in the following areas:

  • OE Components: devices and modules Packaging: new concepts and issues for OE, optical-MEMS and MOEMS OEM applications and world market forecasts Assembly infrastructure issues: manual vs. automation

  • Emerging Technologies: new sources, multiplexers and opto-switches Optical fiber technology: handling and connection issues with solutions Materials: Adhesives, coatings and getters Test and inspection

Presentation materials and papers should be noncommercial in nature, focusing on technology. To deliver an oral presentation, it is mandatory to provide a print-quality paper or hard copies of visuals for the conference proceedings. Previously published papers and papers focused on a company's products will not be accepted.

Abstracts summarizing the original and previously unpublished work covering case histories, research and discoveries must be received by February 22, 2002, and should be approximately 200-300 words long.
