IMAPS have announced their annual international symposium will be held as the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts on 18-22 September 2000. The event will be preceded by a variety of professional development courses specifically designed to address areas of interest within the microelectronics and packaging industries. Planning for IMAPS 2000, the 33rd International Symposium on Microelectronics is under way with a very ambitious theme "Connecting to the future of microelectronics". The Technical Program Committee, chaired by John Roman of Raytheon, issued the "call for papers" with a distinct prejudice toward technologies that will define microelectronics into the third millennium. The deadline to submit abstracts was 4 February 2000. It is abundantly clear that IMAPS intends to confront the reality of leading edge product and process developments, which will facilitate life beyond 2000. Papers are being sought from sources relating to all relevant microelectronic technologies. Membership in IMAPS is not required to present a paper.
IMAPS 2000 will draw upon a 33-year history of innovation to construct a technological bridge to the twenty-first century. With an emphasis on wireless components, exotic leading edge materials and ultra-high density interconnection, this confab, combined with a 400 booth exhibition, seeks to construct a credible map of third millennium microelectronics for its anticipated 6,000 plus attendees. In the shadows of MIT, Harvard and the other Cathedrals of Future-Think surrounded by the ancient cobblestones of Boston and Cambridge, a unique and inspiring Cable Stay Bridge is rising across The Charles River ... IMAPS is poised to cross it.
