New XP-508 stencil printers for fine pitch SMT applications from Affiliated Manufacturers, lnc., North Branch, NJ offer a combination of advantages to maximize usefulness and cost-effectiveness. The new stencil printers are designed for stand-alone, semi-automatic operation. Boards up to 18" × 16" may be accommodated, and the XP-508 may be used for a wide variety of SMT packaging applications to meet current and future requirements.

AMI spokesman, Michael Laing said that the XP-508 represents state-of the-art stencil printer technology. It is designed for use with a wide variety of materials including FR-4, flexible circuitry, low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC), ceramic substrates, flat panel displays, and others. AMI offers many different tooling options for quick changes and to accommodate single and/or double-sided boards. The XP-508 is PLC based, with programmable functions that include squeegee pressure, squeegee speed, print stroke, stencil height and break away speed, and others. PLC controls maximize user friendliness, speed and simplifies setup and production. The printer is capable of single, double, and alternate print cycles. An optional pneumatic clamping frame holder permits positive stencil clamping for quick and easy installation or removal; pneumatic clamping eliminates stencil bolting to reduce setup and shut down times. The programmable controls of the XP-508 can store up to 50 full recipes with simple recipe recall to speed productivity.

Ease of use ensures consistent, repeatable setup from operator to operator, yet changeovers may be accomplished in under five minutes with minimum operator training or tools.

In addition to its popular line of stencil and screen printers (approximately 25,000 are in use around the world), AMI offers dedicated vision alignment systems, substrate handling and automation systems, and printing supplies.
