New research shows the need for a capital fund for renewables
Article Type: News From: Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal, Volume 22, Issue 3
Some recent research has highlighted the need for a risk capital fund for community renewables. The recent emergence of revenue-generating community renewables has demonstrated how local renewable assets are providing communities with a sustainable revenue stream to support a range of other low carbon and sustainable action. Such projects provide a way to deploy low carbon technology and change behaviour – both essential elements of a low carbon transition. There are relatively few examples of these sorts of projects to date, but a large number are in development. It is clear that there is a demand from other communities to develop similar projects, with the two most recent funding programmes that could support this type of initiative being significantly oversubscribed and the main funding support in Scotland recently closing to new applications because of the high level of demand.
