Organizational change: the Australian experience

Organizational change: the Australian experience

L.K. Savery and J.A. Luks, Journal of Management Development (UK), Vol. 19 No. 4, 2000

Considers how managers can help employees accept the need for organizational change and to contribute towards it. Uses data from the 1995 Australian Workplace Industrial Relations Survey to look at the extent and nature of organizational change within privately-owned commercial organizations in Australia, assessing the type of change (to introduce new office technology; to introduce new production technology; to reorganize the workplace structure; or to change how non-managerial employees do their work) and the objectives. Examines the link between organizational change within these firms and later productivity levels, and discusses how change can lead to reduced productivity and lower overall organizational performance. Also examines the extent to which employees were involved in discussions and decisions concerning the change.

Quality focus says:A wide ranging survey with an interesting regional perspective.
