Our professional future

The recommendations of the Planning Group looking at the merger of the Library Association with the Institute of Information Scientists were made available on the Web in April 1999. Points of interest regarding training and development are as follows:

  • The chartering process needs to be explained in more detail, with particular commitment to ensuring the best practice of both organisations (point F).

  • Outstanding achievement within the profession will be honoured in some form, and honorary fellowships will be available for award to non-members who have supported the profession and its causes and objectives (point H).

  • The new body will be called The Chartered Institute of Information Professionals: (The UK Association for Librarians and Information Scientists) (point R).
