UKOLUG: New Networks, Old Information will be the theme of UKOLUG's 20th Birthday Conference, to be held in the Manchester Conference Centre at UMIST on July 14-16 1998. Institute of Information Scientists: The 40th Anniversary Conference will be held at the University of Sheffield on 8-11 July 1998. In the way of anniversaries, the conference will be looking both back, and forward to the future, including a contemplation of the hottest of new topics, knowledge management. Sue Hill will run a personal development workshop, and David Smith of the Department of Health will run a session under the banner "Has a Web been thrown at you lately? Coping with running a running a website when you already have a full-time job". Sounds familiar. JANET User Group for Libraries (JUGL): From 7-9 July 1998 at the University of Nottingham, the JUGL conference will be addressing the issue of "The Medium and the Message", and examining how the changing nature of the information being delivered electronically is affecting our working lives. A range of cutting edge projects, including the British Library's Digital Library programme, will be covered, many of them focussing on bringing together catalogue, CD-ROMs and internet together under a single interface. Library Association: the LA have sketched out plans to hold a "Vision" conference in November 1998, to brainstorm, discuss and plan out the way the profession must change to keep pace with radical alterations in our work, our expectations, and those of readers, researchers and information seekers. Further details will follow, but the media, telecommunications and retail sectors are all expected to be represented, as well as Librarians and Information Workers.
